Positive, visible, proactive presence

Stiftelsen Bergen Diakonissehjem
Stiftelsen Bergen Diakonissehjem (Bergen Deaconess Home
Foundation) is an independent nursing and welfare institution
within the Church of Norway, and was established in 1918.
Stiftelsen Bergen Diakonissehjem aims to be a positive, visible
and proactive presence within the Church and within society as a
whole, as well as a preferred partner for the Church and for
secular social institutions when new, complex and demanding nursing
and welfare challenges arise.
Our objective
Our objective is to promote Christian care of our fellow man by
nurturing and educating people to provide services for the sick,
the needy and others in need of help, care and welfare. We will
continue to pursue our own activities, and work to promote and
strengthen the nursing and welfare services provided by the Church
in Norway and abroad.
Hospital
Our activities comprise the hospital Haraldsplass Diakonale
Sykehus a.s., which has been established as a limited company and
is wholly owned by Stiftelsen Bergen Diakonissehjem. This hospital
is the second largest in Bergen and treats approximately 14,500
inpatients and 15,800 outpatients annually.
School
Haraldsplass diakonale høgskole, the college run by
Stiftelsen Bergen Diakonissehjem, concentrates its activities to
providing nursing training and education in guidance, counselling,
philosophical outlook and ethics. The college has attached to it
some 500 students, 230 of whom undertake basic nursing
courses.
Children
Garnes Ungdomssenter is a long-term child welfare institution
providing places for 15 adolescents with social difficulties.
Guidance
Sjelesorgsenteret (the centre for spiritual guidance) provides
spiritual counselling and teaching in spiritual guidance.
Retreat
The steering group for retreats (SFR) is responsible for arranging
and implementing retreats in the Bergen area. SFR will also work to
realise our vision of creating our own retreat linked to the
foundation.
Fellowship
Diakonifellesskapet is an organised Christian, professional and
cultural fellowship which helps provide strength and inspiration to
us in our faith and in the services we provide.
